Residential contractors must register with the Contractors' Registration Board. To find out if a contractor is licensed by the Rhode Island Contractors' Registration Board call (401) 222-1268. In order to register you must do so with the Department of Administration. There is an application for registration available on line at http://www.crb.state.ri.us/down_load.htm There is no exam required for this registration but you must supply the following information...ownership of your company,at least $500,000 proof of liability insurance, current and/or previous registrations you have used as a contractor, specialty trades, years of experience, account number for your worker's compensation insurance, account number for unemployment insurance, state tax witholding number, and your federal employer identification number. Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training Workers' Compensation, (401) 462-8100. There is a $120 fee to register and registration is good for two years. Every contractor is required to pass the OSHA exam.
